2011 Westover Chardonnay, Pleasanton Ridge

The grapes for this wine hail from a very limited production vineyard high on Pleasanton Ridge in the Livermore Valley. At an elevation of 2,000 feet, the it is the highest altitude of any Livermore Valley Vineyard. The grapes were picked at about 24% sugar with perfect acid. The resulting Chardonnay is full-bodied, balanced and crisp with not too much oak, acid or butter but with hints of fresh pear and apple. From the simple to sublime, this Chardonnay is an incredibly versatile food partner. It shines with lobster, crab, scallops and variety of fish. Pork chops with roasted apples, maple glazed ham, veal marsala, chicken salad and chicken potpie pair nicely. Vegetarian fare such as miso soup, creamy vegetable bisque, pasta primavera and dishes featuring lentils or pestos are great partners as well.
